Aromatherapy is becoming more widespread and popular, and with good reason. For those who have heard about aromatherapy, but never tried it, there may be an element of fear. What if the essential oils do some damage? What if it doesn't work? If you feel that way, then the best thing you can do is spend some time learning about aromatherapy and its benefits, and make sure that the ingredients you use are of the highest quality.
It's important to realize, though, that there are some people who won't be able to use aromatherapy products. Generally this is only people who have a skin condition that reacts to the aromatherapy oils. However the top quality aromatherapy products don't contain irritating fragrances, and so these should be safe to use. It's possible that someone who has tried aromatherapy with poor quality oils will be scared of having another go, but chances are they will be able to use aromatherapy as long as they use the right oils.
Make sure you never put undiluted essential oils directly onto your skin. They need to be diluted first, and it's always a good idea to do a small test on an inconspicuous area of skin, just in case you are sensitive to the products. Many people find it easiest to mix a few drops of the essential oil with a carrier oil, such as avocado oil. This is much easier to apply, and you're less likely to put too much of the essential oil on one area of skin.
Aromatherapy isn't recommended for pregnancy women, unless their physician says it's okay. Even so, pregnant women shouldn't use essential oils in a bath, and when they do use them in other ways, they should be kept to a minimum. People with high blood pressure are also advised to check with their physician before using aromatherapy products.
Another risk category is people who suffer from seizures or epilepsy. Again, if you fall into that group, check with your physician before trying aromatherapy. It's possible that certain oils may aggravate the conditions or trigger a seizure.
Asthmatics also need to be careful when using oils and aromatherapy ingredients. It may be best to only use very mildly fragranced oils to avoid triggering an attack. Cancer patients can also find their condition is aggravated by aromatherapy. If you have any concerns, you should always check with your doctor before trying any type of aromatherapy.
Generally, though, aromatherapy is safe fro most people, and can be used in plenty of good ways. Many people have found that aromatherapy and the use of essential oils does a lot to improve the health of their body and mind. Take some time to learn more of the facts about aromatherapy, and then make up your mind whether or not you want to use aromatherapy products on your skin.
