Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the art of using herbs and oils to relax your body. They can help you be happier and healthier. Some very common aromatherapy products include essential oils, soaps, and candles. The word aromatherapy comes from aroma meaning fragrance and therapy meaning treatment. In addition to allowing you to relax and eliminate stress, aromatherapy is used to treat illnesses, asthma, insomnia, headaches, eczema, and menstrual issues. Research is currently being conducted to find out if aromatherapy is beneficial for those with Autism.

The idea of aromatherapy is nothing new. It has been in use since the time of the Ancient Egyptians. They extracted oils from various plants. The Greeks used aromatherapy for healing. The Romans gave it the name aromatherapy. The Chinese have used aromatherapy for healing and relaxing for centuries. Today aromatherapy is used for sensual pleasure, relaxing, and rejuvenation. It is believed to help the blood circulate properly, increase the amount of oxygen in the blood, and enhance the immune system.

The medical field debates the effectiveness of aromatherapy. Some believe it has healing powers for depression, headaches, arthritis, asthma, and memory loss. Others believe it is a hoax that costs society millions of dollars each year. Some in the medical field believe aromatherapy is harmful for you, leading to headaches and fatigue. It is rumored that pregnancy woman and individuals with epilepsy should stay away from aromatherapy. However, there is nothing to substantiate the claims that aromatherapy can be harmful for you. Those who use aromatherapy fully believe in its healing powers.

There is also a debate about aromatherapy products being safe for children and pets. Some aromatherapy products may be too strong for small children. Parents often use it to help them feel better from illnesses. Place only one or two drops in the bath tub or a vaporizer to help your child fight off an infection, cold, or the flu. It is not recommended to use aromatherapy on your pets or place it in the air around your pets. Cats can absorb aromatherapy products into their bloodstream resulting in damage to their liver.

Make sure any aromatherapy products you purchase are 100% natural to reap the full benefits of them. Many retailers sell aromatherapy products with artificial ingredients in them. If the product isn't labeled with the ingredients being all natural then you are better off purchasing a different aromatherapy product. You can also choose to make your own aromatherapy products at home. You can purchase the basic ingredients at an aromatherapy store, health store, herbalist, or on the internet. Make sure all the ingredients you purchase are 100% natural.

It is best to get an aromatherapy book for aromatic and therapeutic blending. Use only the specified amount of each aromatherapy oil. It is not a good idea to mix them on your own creative ideas because some aromatherapy oils don't work well together. The internet is a great place to find more information on what aromatherapy oils work well together. If you haven't tried aromatherapy before, you should. It may be just what you need to feel better physically and mentally.
